Research Education regularly posts various announcements and pertinent information on this page designed to keep the University research community informed about current events, topics and trends throughout the broad field of research administration.
Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP)
NIH Public Access Policy Training Class
The new NIH Public Access Policy now requires that all articles derived from NIH supported activity that are published in peer-reviewed journals be made available to the public via the PubMed Central database within 12 months of original publication. The University has several tools available to faculty to help them meet this requirement. Regular training opportunities on the steps necessary to meet this requirement are available through the Research Administration Training Series (RATS) class "Publishing Smart: How to Make Your Article Visible" ( http://www.education.research.utah.edu/detail.cfm?class=54 ). In addition, the OSP and the Eccles Health Sciences Library are pleased to offer individual training sessions for departments or colleges as needed. Please contact Brent K. Brown, Director, OSP at brent.brown@osp.utah.edu to schedule an individual training session or for more information.

New Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Orientation
The Office of Clinical Research Compliance and Education (CRCE) invites UUHSC clinical research staff members to participate in an orientation to the UUHSC study initiation process. For the last four years, this orientation has been offered on a one-on-one basis by the Clinical Trials Office, the precursor to the CRCE. Employees new to clinical research are especially encouraged to attend.
The steps from initial grant or contract preliminaries through study initiation will be reviewed, the various offices that the CRC will need to contact for approval and required documentation will be identified, the federal regulations and university policies and procedures specific to clinical research will be discussed, and the services provided by the Office of Research Education including the Research Administration Training Series (RATS) Certificate of Achievement program will be described.
Registration is available at http://www.education.research.utah.edu/detail.cfm?class=58 . For more information, please contact Sadie Quinn, Clinical Research Analyst, CRCE, at sadie.quinn@hsc.utah.edu or 213-3602.
